For our first round, our opponent was a trainer and their Pokemon. He was interesting, but... hrm--[There's a bit of a pause here on his end. What's the best way to describe this...] ...their taste was too harsh when it came to their battling strategy, as well as the way they commanded their Pokemon. Perhaps if he had been better at keeping calm, as well as treating his Pokemon with a little more respect, things might have gone differently, but... in the end, they lost. A shame, really.
[For a guy who won, he almost sounds disappointed. Or rather, Cilan's not disappointed about winning, far from it: he's just disappointed that his opponent wasn't up to par, so to speak.]
[ Another trainer... There's only a small handful Red knows, and his mind flickers their images faintly as he tries first to guess who Cilan might be talking about. It's brief, the face of a redhead coming first, but then there lingers a blond, more like a uncertain possibility, and much dimmer than the former for that reason.
(after all, there's no reason to suspect that about the latter, but there's no reason to think kindly of them, either.) ]
What did he look like? [ ... ] Did he have red hair? There was a trainer I met like that.
[ Again, his image briefly shows once more. A scowl on his face-- and then an entirely different look, one of fear, the boy turning with fumbling feet, a small hint of guilt coming after it plays. ]
[...He should probably ask about that blond you were thinking about, but for now, let's focus on the ginger disaster first.]
It was a trainer with red hair. [There's a pause, and then--] There are two trainers with the same name and appearance here now, so I suppose I should clarify that the one that I fought in the tournament had Feraligator, Golbat, and Haunter as their partners.
[The clarification probably wasn't that necessary, but... man, it is still weird thinking that there are two versions of Silver running around now.]
I'm sure we're talking about the same one. [ For all he knows, they could both have those pokémon-- anyway ] With trainers like that, it makes me worry about the pokémon...
[ After the way his foreign pokémon had reacted earlier into their second meeting, and the haunter too. ]
[mainly because I'm still in backtag hell with that thread ahahaha...]
He wasn't happy, but... somehow, I get the feeling that this was a good thing for him, that he lost.
[It's hard to explain, but it felt almost as if his opponent was using this battle to try to prove something to himself. Maybe now he can see that his way of things simply doesn't work like he had thought before.]
Before I left, I gave him some advice that might help him in the future. Until then, all I can do is wait and see whether or not he takes what I said to heart or not.
Well, that was something. Any potential positive was hopeful, even if they had to wait for time to tell. He hums to himself, then remembers- oh yes. Mind chat. He's giving a small silence over here, oops. ]
Right. I hope he does. [ That's all he can say about that. Which, fortunately, wasn't the reason he mind-chatted Cilan today. ] Hey, do you know who you're challenging tomorrow?
Yes--their name was "Kor Meteor", if I recall correctly. I don't really know much about them, aside from the fact that they don't have any Pokemon to battle with.
[So yeah, unlike the first round, the next one will involve actually fighting a person and not battling with their Pokemon.]
Oh, yeah, he's... [ How would he describe him... ] He's part of the Enforcers. I've met him a few times. I don't know how he fights... ...with a sword, I guess. I know he doesn't use any kinds of creatures anyway.
One of the Enforcers, huh... [The only one he knows well from their group is Edea, where as the others... not so much. The last time he interacted with other members of the group involved a situation with Mewtwo, and frankly the less said about those events, the better.]
Well, I can say that this should be an interesting challenge for us, since this is the first time we've ever had an opponent like this. I can only imagine what kind of taste our battle may have tomorrow...
[Sword fighter, though... we're probably gonna have to be more cautious this round than we were in the last one...]
[ The possibility of such a match-up was always there -- it was a tournament open to all, not specific by more than abilities for combat, and it was the reason such an event hadn't interested Red (pitting pokémon against people that wasn't in actual warning, like those of Team Rocket was...)
But Cilan knew what he was doing, so- he wasn't going to ask about if Cilan was sure about this. Despite the urge to. ]
If he does use a weapon like that, then... I guess it'll be like battling a scyther. [ Is that... a helpful way to think... ] Do you know that pokémon?
[Cilan has two reasons for entering: a few of his friends were taking part in it, including Ash and Trip, and they had wanted to compete with him.
The other reason, however... as much as he hates to even consider this thought, there is a possibility that there might come a day where they meet someone here who might actually try to attack their Pokemon in a not-so friendly fight. Maybe this tournament could be used as practice in a controlled setting to help his Pokemon learn how to defend themselves so that they'll be prepared for that type of situation...]
Scyther? [Hm...] I've heard of it, but I haven't had the chance to see one in person yet.
[They don't have Scythers living in Unova, sad to say...]
Though it means scrambling around in his own head for memories, where at least an image of the pokémon isn't hard to find first, the reason for bringing up the pokémon in relation to swords is clear and obvious by the bladed arms it possesses.
But then comes small clips of the bug type in action, moving swiftly (enough that it takes a moment for the creature to even be seen), using any surface it could rest its feet upon as a prop to allow it to swing its bladed arms.
They're not something that look pleasant to be the target of. ]
[They may not look pleasant to be on the receiving end of, but Cilan is certainly enthralled as he views the memory being shown to him.]
My, they really are amazing to see in motion... and what a sharp flavor when it comes to their attacks, too...
[Give us a moment here, there might be some warm fuzzies of appreciation and joy looking at this cool Pokemon before he responds.]
Thank you for showing us--I can see now why you made the comparison before. [In fact...] Come to think of it, this taste reminds me a little of some Pokemon that we had living in Unova, named Pawniard and Bisharp.
[Here, let us share some images of Pokemon too in exchange for the ones you gave us, featuring Pawniard and then followed by it's evolved form, Bisharp, two Pokemon that have knives for hands and other sharp pointy bits on their bodies...]
[ What is with the pokémon world, what are these creatures--
but they're not just one of a kind, apparently. He'd usually be more excited about seeing a new pokémon, and while there's some admiration for what he sees, well... ]
I'm sure it'll be okay. [ Let's be cheery. Positive! ] Can I ask you how you did tomorrow too? I wanna know all the details! Tell me about any cool fights you see too! Is anyone fighting with their fists?
Of course! I'll be sure to tell you everything about how our match went tomorrow as well.
[spoilers: it's gonna suck]
And yes, I believe there are some competitors that are fighting with their fists, but I think they are in a different division than those of us who have Pokemon or other special means to battle with. I suppose the people running the tournament felt it would be more fair that way.
Oh, so they split it up? That makes sense if they're letting anyone from a different world sign up and all of us have different skills to go with it. But I still haven't met anyone like a pokémon trainer yet... 'cept one guy, but he doesn't have his partners with him anymore.
[ Special in the way that makes Red quiet, thinking of how to describe it. ]
The way he described it, they were like... legendaries. They meant a lot to the world he's from, and his family had were connected to them. They were the only ones that really understood them and what they did.
...It was some heavy stuff. [ And it was there that the line thickened--not sombre, nor tense, but something close enough. ] But the creatures--birds called Chains, he called them--they got separated for some reason to different people.
I don't know if I should really get into it, but I could tell he cared about them a lot. Still does.
Ah, I see... [Don't worry Red, he's not going to pry too much into what sounds like a private topic that was discussed between the two of you.] It certainly sounds like they were really important to him. Plus, he sounds like someone that would be interesting to talk to in general. Perhaps it would be nice for us to meet them sometime.
[Heavy stuff or no, it is nice to hear about someone who seems to care about and have partnerships with other creatures, even if Cilan doesn't really know what these "Chains" are.]
Sure, I told him about the legendary flying types from Kanto when I spoke to him. Maybe you could tell him about any flying types from your region too.
But, you two would have to meet... could I introduce them? [ hmm, hmm, some thinking here... ]
Sure, if you don't mind. [If it's an inconvenience, then don't worry about it too much.]
Flying types from my region, though... [Hm] Yes, I'm sure I can think of a few that they might like hearing about! And you as well, of course--if you ever want to hear about any Pokemon from Unova, I'd be happy to tell you more about them too.
Sure, that's fine with me! I'll ask them too--if they say yes, their name is Oswald. I'll say he can message you sometime and you can share stories! They're really amazing to see. They're so big; bigger than the winged legendaries of Kanto!
Ahh, really? That does sound amazing... now I'm even more curious about this taste, and how they would compare to the legends of Unova...
[Oswald though, huh... alright, he'll make sure to commit that name to memory for if and when we meet them in the future.
There's a slight pause, before...]
Until then... thank you for telling us about them, Red. It's such a pleasure to get to hear about more people here who have an appreciation for the creatures that live in their worlds.
[Red probably doesn't need him to explain why something like that means anything to us, considering that sort of thing should be practically expected of others, but alas... that's not always the case here, so Cilan sincerely means it when he says that simply hearing about this person has put him in a good mood now.]
It's alright. [ Honestly, it's a shared sentiment, knowing there's somebody who cares about creatures. One that sends a warm sensation from his end, remembering the way it felt to listen to the man. ]
