Need to talk privately with Cilan? Send him a message via the crystal or carrier pigeon? Want to meet with him without posting a log for it? Here's the place to do it!
Let's eat after! [ Turning, he waves his free hand as he plops the basket down, flipping open the lid to (very sneakily shove something from inside into his jacket pocket!!) take out two drink bottles inside and place onto the blanket. ] Food can wait, but the sea creatures won't! And our pokémon can hang out and keep an eye on our things here.
[ ...Except, actually- ] We can take a sandwich out with us though. Here, come over and pick something. I've made different types!
[ Because if we make a load, we have to hit a sandwich Cilan would be happy with. Just let your imagination be free with what type of sandwiches, as well as some sliced up fruits in a container, vegetables in another, plenty of cookies/biscuits, and some scones with a jar of jam to top it all off.
He definitely didn't make the scones and biscuits or the sauces, but he did the sandwiches and the slicing!! There is more here than for two people because there are more than two stomachs present. ]
Oh! [Cilan's definitely checking out the spread with interest, picking a sandwich out at random to look at it.] Red, did you put all of this together yourself?
[He's really impressed!! Just look at the way he's sparkling...]
[ Oh man look at how and feel how happy this guy is, this was so worth all the chopping Red did!! ]
I had some help, and someone told about these [ picking up a scone; it's even the fruity variety with raisins inside! ], but I wanted there to be enough for us and our pokémon!
[ Which technically there probably isn't with the size of Charizard and Lapras's stomachs, but they'll be nice and eat sparingly!! ]
You've put up with my pancakes for so long too... it's the least I could do! [ And we totally wanted to see Cilan all happy and we got it and boy is it starting to feel like a nice, exciting summer day here. ] I want you to have a good time!
Well thank you, Red, it looks wonderful... and I'm sure that it will taste just as good as it looks, too.
[So he'll snag a sandwich and... maybe one of those scones real quick for himself. His Pokemon, if they're not already out, will be getting their poke'balls opened so that they can hang out here with Red's Pokemon while they're fishing.]
Of course. Lapras and me are ready to take you on board!
[ Cilan gets a fun salute with that, and Lapras takes that as the signal to finally shift herself to expose her shell for them to climb onto. Seriously, boneheads, she's been waiting for you two to make up your minds -- and yes, she'll definitely take that slice of sandwich offered to her after Red's up on her shell, the boy then turning to offer a hand to Cilan should he need it. ]
[Thanks Red, he'll accept the offered hand so that he can climb aboard onto the shell of Lapras too.]
Okay, I'm ready! Let us set out on our grand adventure to unite the people and creatures of land and sea! [Or "back of a Lapras" and "fish living in a lake" but ssshhh just let him have his dramatics here.] Based on what I know about the lake, I think the best spot might be for us to go in... that direction, I believe?
[Points in the indicated direction here--sure, it's been a while since he last fished here, but he's pretty sure that he remembers there being more fish congregating somewhere over there.]
[ Cilan, Red takes it up by two and you have to go all the way to eight.
Lapras hears directions though, and she turns her head to try and catch them but doing so too late, and so humming a noise for Red to repeat the way they want to go (and if Red agrees to it). He does, and then gestures for Cilan to sit down with him. Just mind the bumps and you'll be a-ok, buddy.
But once they're settled, off she begins!! And it's a gentle start that slowly picks up, but never losing its smooth sailing. ]
Have you ever ridden on a lapras before? They're rare to find around Kanto -- I've only seen a wild one once.
No, I can't say that I have: Lapras is not an easy to find Pokemon where I'm from either, and it's more likely that you won't see one at all unless you're far north or if you start sailing farther out away from Unova.
[Village Bridge supposedly have Lapras living there, but... BW anime didn't give us an episode featuring that place at all and we are still incredibly salty about that to this day.]
But I must say, this is quite nice: your Lapras has a calm and relaxing taste to it in regards to the way it moves across the water here!
She's a natural. [ Not that it does her much good, but he pats one of her spikes. ] There's a lapras at a Safari Park that everyone can see, but this lapras was given to me by a scientist I met, and she's been an important part of my journey ever since. She took me all over to the small islands around Kanto so I could search for pokémon for the pokédex.
It makes me miss the smell of the sea thinking about it. [ And he looks out to the water with that, though not without a quick look over to Cilan- ] Oh, tell her to stop when you like the spot.
Mm, I can tell that the two of you have a close bond, one that's taste is sweet and--oh, wait, let's stop here. Is that okay, Lapras?
[Because if he had kept talking, they might have ended up surfing right over and away this spot that he thinks they should use for fishing. Good thing he was actually paying attention to his surroundings, for once.]
[ Stop, you say? It's nice swimming, but stop she will. There you go, kids. Enjoy your lazy fun. ]
We'll have to be careful about what we attract. I've been trying to figure out everything they have here, but the lake's the biggest mystery when it comes to creatures. There's no telling what we'll find!
[ So, they'll definiiiitely have to not underestimate the pull they'll receive if they get a bite. Red's pulling something out of his pocket, sitting his fishing rod on his lap (bless sturdy foldable makes) as he chatters away. ]
I've always wanted to ask Sosyne what she remembers being in the seas with her in the past, but I don't think she'd like me to. [ Ah, let's just hold out our hand and show off the item in it now. ] Oh yeah, I got this new lure to try out from a fishing shop the other day! It's supposed to let out a steady stream of emotion to attract any fish when it's submerged in water.
Oh, very impressive! [However... Cilan allows a confident smile to rise to his face as he takes out his own fishing rod--the air feels like it's charged with energy again--] I'll be using my special custom lure that I had made to go along with my rod--not only do I think it has a charming flavor to it, but it's proven to be quite reliable in my previous endeavors when it comes to the art of fishing.
[When Cilan opens the container that contains his fishing rod, he does so with a flourish that may or may be accompanied by a sparkling colorful effect to it due to his passion. However, before casting it out, he is going to make sure the line is in proper order as well as allow Red to see the lure: isn't it neat?]
And that is absolutely, most definitely worth the giggles that bubble up from Red's throat and quickly burst into actual laughter beginning at the bottom of his stomach. He can't bother with his own rod right now--that's staying right on his lap with his sandwich, because he's going to need one hand on himself and the other keeping him steady on Lapras, and oh, it'll take time for the words to come out, but- ]
I-it has your head on it!
[ Cilan will totally get to know what's so damn hilarious, and that's just going to renew the laughter all over. He can't breathe here! ]
[ The confusion on Cilan's face should be help in ceasing the laughter when Red looks over again, but the fact that it tells him that the gym leader doesn't find this strange at all, that it's normal to him, just makes the giggles emerge once more, and soon enough he's burying his head in his hands in some weak attempt to hush himself.
Cilan might want to just...start fishing or something... Red is going to need time to recover. Even when he finally reveals his face again, every part of him is still shaking with chuckles now and then, and he's not even going to attempt to explain any of this to the older boy or even look at him. (He does try once. It just makes him laugh.)
[Cilan's... not quite sure if he appreciates the laughter, or at least in regard to Red not really explaining himself here, but otherwise he will get started with fishing--]
Anyway... now, let's go, my rod! It's fishing time~!
[--with dramatic flair, of course, as the way he casts his line out into the water once it's ready is quite flashy, but also shows evidence of knowing how to cast it just right, hand resting on the reel and watching the line carefully even as he speaks.]
Now then, since the creatures living in this lake are not like Pokemon, we'll first start with a slow and careful flavor that will allow for a proper meeting with this thin line... if we're too hasty, then the connection will break too quickly and that would be an undesirable taste...
[It's best to try to ease the creatures in the lake into acknowledging our presence here rather than rushing into it...]
[ Red is less dramatic when he sends out his line, giggles now gone but not the smile on his face. This is a good day. A great day. He wants a lot more of these days. ]
Isn't it a good idea to keep your guard up with pokémon too? Unless you know there's nothing but magikarp in there. Goldeens and seakings never give me an easy time when I've caught them on my line. [ The pain in the fins. ]
...Think anyone's ever accidentally fished up Sosyne? [ How many people other than Red think this is actually a funny thought. ]
You know what, I'm not sure--I would think that it would be impossible to do so, given Sosyne's desire to avoid contact with most people here at the moment.
[However, he does allow a wry smile momentarily.]
Though, that would make for an interesting taste, wouldn't it? Not to mention that would add a special flair of credence when it comes to one's talent in fishing--it would almost make fishing up a Gyarados look like child's play, perhaps.
[... Not that Cilan is actually intending to try to fish up Sosyne, but he does allow some humor at the thought.]
[ Eheh. ] I don't know- maybe she secretly wants someone to fish her up so she can tell them off for being so stupid.
[ Which is funny -- but then it hits Red that even that might be too forward for the arehtei, and that isn't so funny. Dumb stupid Sosyne letting herself be lonely in her dumb stupid waters.
It makes his smile softer, if not fonder, having that grumpy arehtei on his mind. Uggghhh. ]
She doesn't want to be alone... she just doesn't want to be the one to reach out. [ He lets out an exaggerated breath, his shoulders heaving with it. ] I think that's it, anyway. She complained about how she used to have a lot more visitors in the past. Then there was no one, and I know she was angry for longer than we can imagine...
[ The drop in his voice doesn't stay, instead turning into a impassioned sincerity. ] But that's why I wish she would try and talk to people, or get caught up in their fishing lines, or anything -- just so she doesn't have to be so lonely now! I know we're not hundreds of people aligned to her, but we're what's here with her. She has to put up with our feelings, so why not get something out of it?
[ He's been eyeing the waters where their lines disappear into, down into the blue, but then looks up into the far distance before leaning out just a little- ]
You hear me, Sosyne? Go have some fun! Let out some steam! Introduce me to your friends and come and meet mine!
[ And then Red sits back with a thump, a small laugh escaping him and an energy tickling at his skin.
[Red's words echo out over the lake and fade out amid the quiet noise of rippling water and chirping birds. It's a calming, tranquil scene, especially compared to the fishing technique it's currently playing host to.
Up until, you know, something unseen yanks hard enough on the line to whip the whole fishing rod into the water if it doesn't just snap.]
[If you think Cilan's going to let you take his super special custom made fishing rod and lure from home out of his hands, you've got another thing coming. Also, because it's custom made for with-standing some seriously angry Pokemon like Gyarados, it's strong enough to not snap right away, but it is certainly bending at an unfriendly angle that spells disaster if left in that state for too long.
Thus, Cilan fights to keep a hold on it here, one hand reaching up to brace the fishing rod to try to keep it from snapping the line, or worse, the rod itself. However, this probably will cause Sosyne to just yank hard enough to pull him straight into the water along with the fishing rod, unless someone can grab him in time...]
[ Nobody asked her, but if they had, Lapras could've told them that this was going to lead to trouble the moment Red opened his mouth about that oversized piece of withering sea meat.
But maybe she's still bitter about that temper tantrum over the city all those months ago. Who knows.
However, now is not the time for commentary nobody will ever know. What it's the time for is grabbing onto Cilan, Red liking his own fishing rod, sure, but liking the older trainer far more in comparison. That sandwich can get lost into the lake too -- we're going to need both arms here to keep the guy from buckling forward. ]
Cilan, keep pulling!
[ Pulling is actually probably not the best idea here than 'letting go' considering the bite they've gotten, but this is the fate they've chosen. ]
[The water bubbles furiously, almost like the lake itself is growling as it brings its weight to bear on the straining line. Any second now, the rod is going to snap like a twig. It's going to snap -
- backward, completely clear of both Lapras and the water, with a light drizzle of warm water and nothing on the end?]
Pbbbbthhh!
[Have either of you two ever heard a whale trying to spit something unpleasant out of its mouth? You have now. Then again, with certain physical laws such as the conservation of momentum in mind, right now may not be a great time to sit and listen...]
[Aaaand there they go, falling over backwards and potentially off Lapras and into the water unless Red has a good hold with his legs on Lapras.
Either way, regardless of whether we end up in the water or bending over backwards on Lapras, Cilan's immediate priority is the fishing rodthankfully looking around and checking first to see if Red is okay.]
