Typically, yes. At our gym, my brother Chili had Pansear, a fire-type Pokemon. Our brother Cress had Panpour, a water-type Pokemon, and I had Pansage, a grass-type Pokemon. Some people thought of us as specialists in using the three most popular type of Pokemon that many trainers start out with.
